Epic Games has hired former Nike chief digital officer, Adam Sussman, as their new president.
Sussman, himself, was the first to break the news on LinkedIn. He expressed his gratitude towards Nike and his excitement about joining Epic Games as their president.
“After 5.5 great years at Nike, I have decided to move on to my next opportunity as President of Epic Games,” Sussman told his followers. “Nike is an amazing brand, I got a chance to work with many great people and I am so proud of what we accomplished together. While it’s bittersweet, I am so excited to join Epic and honored to be part of the remarkable team that has built one of the biggest games in the world.”
Sussman went on to express his excitement at the opportunity to “change the future of gaming” while working with Epic. This isn’t the executive’s first stint in the gaming world. He filled the role of VP at Disney Interactive Media Group (DIMG), Zynga, EA, and Take-Two Interactive.
Epic is positioning itself with an eye towards the future. The new hire will likely focus most of his attention on the Epic Games store – which has been providing strong competition to other platforms like Steam by paying for exclusive titles.

What does this shift mean for Fortnite? It’s too soon to tell. Epic is clearly dedicated to keeping loot boxes out of the game, which represent the monetization nightmare that most gamers fear.
It will be interesting to see if Epic takes any new creative directions in Fortnite with Sussman at the helm.
