Crash Pads were an interesting addition to Fortnite when they came into the game, last season. At first, they were a great way to safely exit a helicopter, rotate quickly, and avoid fall damage.
Since then, Epic have added them to competitive modes. As is the case with any item in Fortnite, an addition to competitive means that players will find a way to maximize the benefit of a particular item. Soon, players began to use Crash Pads as a way to push into an opponent’s box.
People are using Crash Pads for their obvious mobility benefits, as well. You can carry up to six of them, and one pad will send you flying in any direction you choose. They’re a great way to safely skip the hectic Launch Pad frenzy that’s so frequent in every competitive late-game.

How do you ensure that you get the most out of a Crash Pad, though? There are a couple of strategies that work better than others. Reddit user u/somebodysgun posted a short video that showed how you can get the most distance out of the Crash Pad. These methods involve running forward on a ramp or, better yet, the “Dorito” cone edit.
Ten or more meters can be the difference between safety and having to use another pad/materials to tunnel into the zone. End-game is all about maximizing the effectiveness of what you have, so you and your teammates should be using these strategies every chance you get.
This video provides some helpful information that we can all keep in the back of our heads as we compete in Fortnite – nothing difficult or that requires practice. We’ve already seen the Crash Pad create several strategies, so we’re excited to see what’s next.
